How it works

Three steps. No surprises.

Most loan sites send you in circles. We built the opposite — a short, honest path from "I need money" to "here are my real options."

  1. 01

    Choose why

Tell us what the money is for. Personal, debt payoff, business, emergency — each one gets sorted differently because each one is different.

    ~15 seconds

  2. 02

    Filter by reality

Share your honest credit band and income. No hard pull. We use this to hide lenders you'll never get approved for so you stop wasting time.

Soft check · no credit impact

  3. 03

    Compare options

See pre-qualified offers side by side — actual APR, fees, term length, funding speed. Pick the one that genuinely fits your wallet.

Run the numbers

What will your payment actually look like?

Slide three numbers — amount, term, and APR — and see your monthly payment, total interest paid, and the price of stretching the term. No email required.

A 36-month $20,000 loan at 12% APR costs $3,932 in interest. The same loan at 72 months costs $8,128. Term length matters more than people think.

Where will your rate land?

Rates aren't "best" or "worst" — they're a function of your credit tier. Here's the honest map. Sample monthly payment is on a $10,000 loan over 48 months at the tier's mid-APR.

Personal loan vs credit card

Same $10,000. Very different math.

Carrying a balance on a card? Here's what the same $10,000 looks like with a fixed-term loan instead. The shape of the debt matters as much as the rate.

How we rank lenders

Our methodology — no paid placement, no surprise rankings.

Every lender gets scored across four weighted categories. We re-score quarterly. Affiliate compensation never affects ranking — it affects whether we cover a lender at all, which we disclose at the top of every review.

Scoring weights

  • Cost

    35%

APR floor, ceiling, origination fees, prepayment penalties.

  • Eligibility

    30%

Credit score floor, income, employment, state availability.

  • Terms

    20%

Loan amounts, term length flexibility, funding speed.

  • Support

    15%

Customer service hours, transparency, dispute handling.

"The cheapest loan isn't the one with the lowest sticker APR. It's the one where your all-in cost — origination, term length, and prepayment penalty — actually fits your payoff timeline."

Our methodology

How we keep this honest.

Rates we publish are rates we verified.
Every APR range on Loan Alley is pulled from the lender's public disclosure page within the last 30 days. We re-check weekly and timestamp every update.
Sorted by your reality, not our payout.
Rankings consider purpose fit, credit-band approval odds, funding speed, and total cost — in that order. Partner payouts never break a tie.
We disclose what we earn.
Loan Alley may receive compensation when readers click partner links and complete an eligible application. That never changes our editorial picks.

Borrower questions

The stuff we get asked most.

  • Will checking my rate hurt my credit score?

No. We do a soft credit pull to match you with lenders likely to approve you. Soft pulls don't show on your credit report and don't affect your score. A hard pull only happens later if you choose to formally apply with a specific lender.

  • How is Loan Alley different from a 'best loans' list?

Best-of lists assume every borrower wants the same thing. We don't. We split lenders by purpose (personal vs. debt vs. emergency vs. business), then sort the list inside each by your actual credit band and how fast you need funding. The 'best' loan for someone with a 780 score and 90 days isn't the best one for someone at 580 with rent due Friday.

  • How fast can I actually get the money?

Depends on the lender and your verification. The fastest funding lenders we track can deposit within 24 hours of approval — some by end of business the same day. Most personal loans fund in 1-5 business days. Business loans typically take 2-10 days.

  • Do you make money if I take a loan?

Yes. We're an affiliate site — Loan Alley may receive compensation when readers click a partner link and complete an eligible application. We disclose that upfront, on every page that's monetized, and our rankings never get rearranged based on who pays us most. Our methodology page explains exactly how rankings are built.

  • What if my credit is rough — like really rough?

Our Bad Credit silo exists for exactly this. We don't bury you in lists that need a 700 score to qualify for. We surface the lenders that actually approve scores below 600, plus the ones that look at things beyond FICO (income stability, employment, cash flow). And we tell you straight when a payday-loan-tier product is the only option left.

  • Is there a fee to use Loan Alley?

No. Comparing loans here is free. The lenders may charge origination fees on their loans (we show those upfront in every comparison) but Loan Alley itself never charges you anything to use the wizard or read the guides.
